Job summary

Wates Group, on behalf of the Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton, is seeking an experienced Electrical Shift Engineer with an electrical bias to join the campus facilities team. You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance on electrical systems and building services, diagnose faults, and support critical infrastructure across the site, working safely to contractual standards.

The role operates a rotating day and night shift pattern with weekend work, and you will be responsible for

Qualifications

• Qualified electrician with recognised electrical industry qualifications.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
• NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Electrical Installation/Maintenance.
• City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent Inspection & Testing qualification.
• Experience in Facilities Management or building services maintenance.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, lighting and emergency lighting.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on electrical systems.

Job description

Electrical Shift Engineer

Location: Hinxton, Cambridgeshire

The Opportunity

WPS is looking to recruit an experienced Shift Engineer with an Electrical bias to join our Facilities Management team based at the prestigious Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a world-renowned scientific and research environment, helping to ensure the reliability, safety and performance of critical building services and infrastructure across the campus.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and fault-finding activities across a range of electrical and building services systems, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with contractual requirements.

Shift Pattern

Rotating shift pattern consisting of both day and night shifts. Colleagues will typically work blocks of 3 to 4 consecutive shifts followed by rest days, averaging a balanced mix of days, nights and time off across the month. This shift pattern includes weekend working as part of the rota.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on electrical systems and associated building services equipment.
• Diagnose and rectify faults across electrical installations and plant.
• Support the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure and site services.
• Complete inspections, testing and compliance checks in line with statutory requirements.
• Ensure all works are carried out safely and in accordance with current legislation and company procedures.
• Accurately complete maintenance records, documentation and permit-to-work requirements.
• Liaise effectively with colleagues, subcontractors and the client team.
• Participate in the on-site shift rota to ensure continuous service delivery.

What We're Looking For

Essential

• Qualified electrician with recognised electrical industry qualifications.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent in Electrical Installation/Maintenance.
• City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent Inspection & Testing qualification
• Experience working within a Facilities Management, Building Services or maintenance environment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, lighting, emergency lighting and associated plant.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a shift team.
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements and safe systems of work
• Facilities Management or Building Services background

Desirable

• Experience working within critical environments, laboratories, research facilities, healthcare, data centres or similar.
• Knowledge of BMS systems and wider mechanical building services.
