Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Power team on the Margam and Port Talbot project in South Wales. You’ll contribute across HV and EHV design and site delivery, gaining hands-on experience with substation equipment, transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, and testing and commissioning.

This is a site-based role that emphasizes collaboration with designers, contractors and suppliers to deliver safely and to high quality standards.

Qualifications

• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A few years' practical experience within an electrical engineering environment.
• Experience working with electrical designs, drawings, specifications, schematics and technical information.
• An understanding of electrical design principles and electrical equipment and systems.
• Experience working with contractors, suppliers or site-based delivery teams.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers, project teams, contractors and suppliers.
• A strong commitment to health, safety and quality.
• An interest in developing your career within Power, HV/EHV and major infrastructure.
• A proactive approach with a willingness to continue learning and developing technically.
• Previous experience within substations, HV/EHV, transmission, distribution, protection and control or testing and commissioning would be advantageous but is not essential.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery on HV and EHV electrical works across both design and site delivery.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, schematics and technical documentation and assist on-site activities.
• Coordinate works with designers, specialist contractors, suppliers and site teams to ensure safety and quality standards.
