Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a career-minded person to join our Mill Green (Hatfield) team as an Electrical and Mechanical Technician. Focused mainly on electrical maintenance, you will perform a range of assigned front-line maintenance/operational activities on sewage pumping stations in Hertfordshire. You will work in multi-disciplinary teams responsible for scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment. This role offers a chance to make a real environmental impact by helping reduce pollution from our sites and networks.

Responsibilities include:
  • Investigate plant failures and perform repairs quickly to prevent process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults during incidents.
  • Install, modify, and commission new plant equipment, and diagnose faults in systems and plants.
  • Provide technical advice, utilize up-to-date technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees if needed.
  • Work on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, control gear, VSDs, valves, measurement instruments, PLCs, and chemical handling equipment.
  • Maintain safety standards and comply with health and safety procedures.
  • Location: Mill Green (Hatfield), AL9 5PE.
  • Work hours: 38 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm, with on-call standby duties every 6 weeks with additional pay.
Candidate requirements:
  • Time-served apprentice with significant electrical experience in a multi-skilled role, with prior electrical apprenticeship.
  • Experience in maintaining, testing, installing, and fault diagnosing electrical plant equipment.
  • Desirable: ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues; confined space training required.
  • Valid driving license.
Personal qualities:
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, eager to learn, and proactive.
  • Quick to respond to faults, curious, and solution-oriented.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willing to undergo safety training.

  • Salary up to £40,000/year, with standby and overtime earning potential (£8,000-£10,000).
