About the role

West Oxfordshire District Council is looking for a skilled and motivated Building Surveyor to join our Property and Assets team. In this key role, you will provide expert advice and technical support across all aspects of building design, maintenance, and compliance. You'll be responsible for surveying and inspecting properties within the Council's portfolio, managing planned and reactive maintenance, overseeing building repairs and renovations, and ensuring all works meet regulatory and safety standards.

Working closely with the Asset Manager, Facilities Lead, Estates Officers, and external consultants, you'll lead maintenance programming, monitor budgets, and help procure and manage contractors and consultants. You’ll also support condition reporting and maintenance planning to ensure the Council’s investment portfolio is well maintained in line with lease obligations. The ideal candidate will be educated to degree or HND level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, have strong knowledge of building surveying and facilities management, and be experienced in procurement processes and contract management, including JCT contracts.

You will need

  • Educated to degree, HND level or equivalent in an appropriate discipline
  • Proven post qualification experience or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Building Surveying and Facilities Management
  • Experience of procurement processes and contracts such as JCT
  • Experience of working with IT systems
  • Experience of managing and supervising consultants/ contractors/ developers

Special Conditions

  • Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle for work purposes
