Job Description:

Job Description

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer who thrives on solving difficult engineering problems? Are you drawn to complex projects and eager to develop your technical leadership by heading multi-disciplinary projects?

If so, you might enjoy tackling the energy industry’s most critical mechanical engineering challenges across various energy systems for diverse clients. Your work could include designing test rigs for UK nuclear fusion development, assessing structural integrity of primary plant in civil and defense applications, creating high-integrity structures for new nuclear facilities, or leading renewable energy projects within a growing carbon net-zero portfolio. Managing multiple projects simultaneously requires adaptability, and the role offers the chance to provide innovative solutions to complex problems, making a significant contribution to UK and global energy security.

If you are a self-starter capable of managing multiple projects, collaborating closely with clients and internal teams to understand requirements, initiate projects, and deliver precise solutions, we encourage you to apply.

Learn more about how you can thrive with us.

Role Requirements:

You will be responsible for delivering projects, leading teams and programs, or working directly within major client projects. To leverage the team and client experience, you’ll work collaboratively in a supportive environment at least half of your working week. You’ll also supervise teams, manage tasks across multiple workstreams, and ensure delivery within time, quality, and budget constraints.

Your work will include reviewing and checking code-compliant calculations, approving technical documents, managing design outputs (CAD designs and drawings), and supporting commercial activities with project managers and directors.

Our success depends on close collaboration with clients, matching our skills to their needs, flexibility, and efficient resource use. Whether delivering engineering services or program management, we aim to provide the right solutions for our clients.

  • Degree qualified mechanical engineer (or relevant qualification).
  • Experience with design codes such as ASME, Eurocodes, BS EN13001, RCC-M, and HS&E legislation.
  • Experience in requirements gathering, including functional, non-functional, stakeholder, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supervising optioneering studies for design solutions.
  • Experience reviewing mechanical substantiation for new or existing designs.
  • Proficiency in writing, reviewing, and approving technical reports (design calculations, safety cases, etc.).
  • Ability to liaise confidently with stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Proven leadership in successful engineering projects with varying team sizes.
  • Accountability in delivering mechanical engineering solutions.

Please indicate if you have experience in any of the following (but apply even if you're eager to gain this experience):

  • Working or authoring bids in safety-critical, regulated environments.
  • Nuclear industry knowledge and safety case understanding.
  • Hazard and fault identification studies (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA).
  • Chartered status or nearing application with relevant professional institutes.
