Parkinson Gray Associates delivers a proven service to some of the leading Consulting Engineering and Contracting businesses within the British construction industry, predominantly across the Building Services, Energy and Sustainability sectors. Our client stands as one of the leading independently owned Building Services Consulting Engineers in the North of England. With three strategically situated offices, they ensure comprehensive local coverage across Yorkshire, the North West, and the North East regions. This industry-leading M&E practice handles projects nationwide for a diverse range of private and public sector clients.

They offer full Mechanical & Electrical design services, complemented by a sustainability team that provides low-energy design and decarbonisation advice. This enables them to manage projects of all sizes and complexities effectively. Due to the expansion of the MEP team, they are now seeking a Principal HVAC Designer to join their ranks.

Location: Manchester (City Centre)
Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 (depending on experience)

The purpose of the Role: As a Principal HVAC Designer, you will play a crucial role in leading the design and implementation of HVAC systems for various projects, ensuring excellence in engineering and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the design and development of HVAC systems for commercial, residential, and industrial projects, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
2. Oversee the preparation of detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and schedules using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM.
3. Perform load calculations, system sizing, and selection of equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handling units, and other HVAC components.
4. Develop energy-efficient and sustainable HVAC solutions, incorporating renewable energy technologies such as solar thermal systems, geothermal heat pumps, and advanced building energy management systems.
5. Utilize cutting-edge decarbonisation techniques, including the integration of high-efficiency heat recovery systems, advanced air filtration, and the use of low-GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerants.
6. Collaborate with clients, architects, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, provide technical guidance, and deliver optimal solutions.
7. Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure project compliance with design specifications, industry standards, and local regulations.
8. Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers within the team, providing technical support and professional development opportunities.
9. Stay up-to-date with industry standards, regulations, and technological advancements, ensuring designs adhere to the latest codes and practices.
10. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, ensuring successful project delivery within scope and schedule.

Qualifications and Experience

1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in HVAC design, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
3. Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex HVAC projects.
4. Strong knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations.
5. Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
6. Proficiency in HVAC design software and tools.
7. Chartered Engineer status is preferred.
