Job Description:

Job Purpose:

Perform high throughput clinical genome sequencing and other clinical assays as needed. Assist in technical troubleshooting, validation, testing processes, review lab results, develop and write operational procedures, monitor laboratory key performance indicators, quality metrics, and the QC program. Report quality events promptly to the laboratory director and quality management, and provide regulatory, due diligence, and internal auditing support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing and evaluate results relative to diagnostic assessment.
  • Engage in continuous process and service improvement; recommend and implement operational efficiencies and new services.
  • Strictly adhere to quality control guidelines to ensure specimen integrity and result accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with country regulations, organizational policies, and accreditation standards.
  • Assist in maintaining ISO 15189 and other regulatory standards.
  • Perform laboratory assays, including clinical and development testing, including shift work as required.

Experience:

  • Clinical experience with molecular techniques, including high throughput DNA sequencing, in a commercial, academic, or government lab.
  • HCPC registration preferred.
  • Experience with nucleic acid-based assays.
  • Attention to detail, organization, and excellent communication skills.
  • Practical experience with clinical laboratory practices is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Language: Ability to interpret safety rules, instructions, and write reports.
  • Maths Ability: Proficiency with probability, statistical inference, and applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Reasoning Ability: Problem-solving, data collection, and interpretation skills.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and laboratory computer systems.
  • Other Skills: Effective interpersonal communication and knowledge of quality control practices per UKAS, ISO 15189, CAP standards.

Working Conditions:

Clinical laboratory environment with exposure to blood-borne pathogens and chemicals; PPE required including lab coat, gloves, and closed footwear.
