The Opportunity

Avantor is looking for a detail-driven and proactive Laboratory Technician to join our team in Macclesfield, UK. In this role, you'll provide operational support to analytical and microbiology laboratories, including tasks such as glass washing, equipment maintenance, and media preparation for testing.

Please note: This role is physically demanding, involving walking over 10,000 steps, handling deliveries, and moving between work areas.

This is a full-time, permanent position based at our customer's site in Macclesfield. We offer an attractive salary, a bonus, pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an additional day off for your birthday.

Working hours

Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The team

You will be part of the Quality Control Department, supporting laboratory operations and solution preparations within a close-knit team of eight Laboratory Technicians. Our department supports pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide, advancing research in the Life Sciences industry.

What We're Looking For

• Applicants of diverse backgrounds, including graduates with scientific degrees or candidates from retail, warehouse, or customer service sectors with transferable skills.
• Experience in customer-facing roles, problem-solving, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of scientific processes and GMP is desirable.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with laboratory systems like 1Lab is a plus.
• High accuracy and focus in tasks, ensuring quality work.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory support tasks: washing glassware, maintaining equipment, managing stock, handling deliveries.
• Prepare reagents, solutions, buffers, and media following SOPs and GMP guidelines.
• Organize laboratory stock and manage inventory levels.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring safety and GMP compliance.
• Record data using tools like 1Lab and Excel, and track equipment servicing and key metrics.
