Job description

Senior Service Designer

Location: Glasgow or Northampton (3 days onsite, Tuesday-Wednesday-Friday)

Length: 6 months

PAYE only

Overall purpose of the role

At Barclays, we're transforming the way our colleagues experience work — and we're looking for a hands-on Service Designer to help lead the charge. This role is central to shaping how we visualize and improve end-to-end colleague journeys, from onboarding to growth and beyond.

Responsibilities
  1. Create and own end-to-end journey maps, ensuring clarity across user experience, process pain points, and backlog priorities.
  2. Lead and facilitate engaging digital workshops (typically 5-8 participants), building future-state journey maps alongside stakeholders.
  3. Use FIGMA to visually articulate journeys, flows, and prototypes.
  4. Apply methodologies such as user interviews, persona creation, observational research, and data-led service insights.
  5. Collaborate with delivery teams, product owners, and transformation leads, contributing directly to backlog development and user-centered design.
  6. Operate as part of an in-house transformation team, actively involved in delivery rather than just advising.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven hands-on service designer with experience in transformation initiatives and influencing service delivery.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, experienced in process improvement and journey visualization backed by research, not assumptions.
  • Strong visual design skills, especially using FIGMA (or similar tools like Adobe Illustrator, Miro, MS Whiteboard) for flows, blueprints, or prototypes.
  • Experience facilitating workshops: recruiting participants, gaining buy-in, managing sessions both digitally and in person.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with delivery teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Ideally, experience with Workday (WD) in HR/colleague experience transformation contexts.
  • Experience in financial services
  • Certifications such as LUMA or Human-Centred Design
