Reporting to the Head of Tax, you will be responsible for ensuring that Indirect Tax compliance is complete, accurate, and timely (both in the UK and overseas territories). You will assist the Head of Tax with Indirect Tax advisory and project work. The role involves providing leadership across the function and the group for Indirect Tax matters.

What you'll be doing:

1. Ensuring the accuracy of the group's Indirect Tax compliance, returns, and payments in the UK and relevant overseas territories (including VAT/GST, packaging and environmental taxes, e-invoicing, Intrastat, etc.).
2. Providing day-to-day assistance around Indirect Tax matters to all parts of the business and other stakeholders, as required.
3. Leading Indirect Tax advisory workstreams, identifying opportunities, and assisting with ad-hoc tax projects.
4. Managing HMRC and overseas tax authority processes, audits, and queries.
5. Working with and managing overseas advisors to support compliance with overseas filing requirements.
6. Raising awareness and evaluating the impact of changes in tax legislation or developments.
7. Driving improvements in Indirect Tax governance, processes, controls, and systems, and minimizing tax risk.
8. Managing VAT/GST accounting and reconciliations, and providing ownership of the VAT ledgers.
9. Supporting the business with Customs and Excise compliance.

What you'll be able to demonstrate:

1. Deep technical expertise in Indirect Tax, with comprehensive understanding of how it contributes to business objectives.
2. Operates at a senior level, demonstrating leadership and mentoring junior colleagues.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building effective relationships.
4. Proven ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
5. Minimum of 5 years' Indirect Tax experience in industry or practice.
6. Track record of process improvements and governance management.
7. Experience with ERP systems, analytics tools, Excel, and data analysis.
8. European/multi-national and retail VAT experience is beneficial.
9. Customs & Excise experience is preferred but not essential.
10. Open to full-time and part-time candidates.

Qualifications:

• Recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ATT, CTA, ACCA, etc.) preferred.
