Job summary

Sense College Peterborough is seeking an Education Support Worker to help learners build skills, independence and confidence for adulthood. The role is permanent, part-time (21 hours across three days) during 39 weeks of the year, with a salary of £14 per hour.

You’ll work closely with learners, enabling inclusive learning and contributing to EHCP development. You’ll also support dressing and personal care where needed, maintain records and participate in reviews and team meetings.

Qualifications

• Caring, motivated and passionate about supporting SEND learners.
• Good general education with Level 2 literacy and numeracy.
• Willingness to work towards Level 3 teaching support qualification.
• Understanding of Ofsted Education Inspection Framework.
• Ability to maintain clear and accurate records.
• Willingness to support dressing and personal care.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
• Experience with sensory or dual sensory impairments is advantageous; BS L1 desirable.

Could you be an Education Support Worker?

We have a great opportunity for an Education Support Worker to join our team at Sense College Peterborough, supporting learners to develop their skills, independence and confidence as they prepare for adulthood.

This is a permanent, part-time role working 21 hours per week across three days, from 9:15am–4:15pm, for 39 weeks per year (term time), with a salary of £14 per hour.

As an Education Support Worker, you'll work closely with learners to help them achieve the outcomes identified in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), keeping their individual needs, choices and aspirations at the heart of the support you provide.

You’ll work alongside experienced education colleagues to support teaching and learning, finding creative and inclusive ways to help learners overcome barriers and develop their skills. You’ll inspire and motivate learners, promote positive learner behaviour and support them to progress towards their individual goals.

Your role will also involve contributing to learner reviews and education team meetings, maintaining accurate records and supporting the development and monitoring of person-centred plans and EHCPs.
The duties are varied and no two days will be the same. You may support learners to take part in educational activities, develop their communication and everyday living skills and access opportunities that help prepare them for adulthood. Supporting learners with dressing and personal care is also a requirement of this role.

What we're looking for:

We’re looking for someone who is caring, motivated and passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs and disabilities to achieve their goals and fulfil their potential.

You’ll need:

A good level of general education, including literacy and numeracy to Level 2

A willingness to work towards a Level 3 teaching support qualification

A positive attitude towards working with people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

An understanding of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework

An understanding of person-centred planning and the ability to contribute to the development and monitoring of person-centred plans and EHCPs

The ability to maintain clear and accurate records

The ability and willingness to support learners with dressing and personal care

The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and build positive relationships with learners

Previous experience supporting people with sensory or dual sensory impairments or complex needs would be an advantage, as would recent experience within a specialist education college or similar setting. British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1 or above is also desirable, alongside qualifications such as PTLLS Level 3, a Health and Social Care Diploma or an IT qualification at Level 2.
