Job summary

Advance Green Futures is seeking an Ecologist to lead the ecology programme in Northumberland. Based in Ashington, you will manage habitat banks, drive biodiversity initiatives, and provide expert guidance to colleagues across the business. This role requires field experience, GIS skills, and knowledge of UK habitat and BNG policy, with travel within Northumberland.

The successful candidate will join a growing team committed to nature recovery and practical conservation.

Qualifications

• Degree or IEEM membership (or equivalent) required.
• Experience/knowledge of habitat creation and management.
• Familiar with the BNG metric and habitat monitoring.
• Botanical knowledge is desirable.
• GIS and digital surveying skills are essential.
• Experience in Ecological Impact Assessments.
• Stakeholder engagement with community groups and elected members.
• Experience with consenting regimes (Natural England, Environment Agency).
• Understanding of ecological legislation and policy.
• Knowledge of UK habitat, species and BNG legislation.
• Full UK driving licence.

Advance Green Futures

Our newly formed Ecology and Sustainability team is responsible for creating and managing the third largest habitat bank in the country, as well as ensuring that our activities are sustainable.

We have exciting plans for growth in this area of the business and to develop new business opportunities in the sustainability sector.

As an Ecologist within the Advance Green Futures division, you will be at the forefront of managing our ecology programme, supporting the work on our habitat banks and providing advice and guidance to colleagues across the business.

This is a new role, offering a rewarding and exciting opportunity to make a significant difference to the business and to nature recovery.

Location: You will be working at our offices located in Ashington, Northumberland. There will be an expectation that you will need to travel to other locations within Northumberland.

Essential Criteria

• Relevant degree/membership of the IEEM or similar
• Experience/knowledge of habitat creation and management.
• Experience/working knowledge of the BNG metric and processes including Habitat Management, Monitoring Plans, surveys and assessment
• Demonstrable botanical experience.
• Knowledge/experience of GIS systems and digital surveying tools.
• Experience of Ecological Impact Assessment.
• Experience working with stakeholders including community groups and elected members.
• Experience of consenting regimes e.g. Natural England, Environment Agency etc.
• Understanding of ecological legislation and policy.
• Knowledge of UK Habitat, species and BNG legislation
• Knowledge of techniques for the conservation, management and enhancement of habitats/species.
• Knowledge of funding regimes and opportunities for land management.
• Full UK Driving licence.

Salary: £32,000 to £45,000 (depending on experience) with incentive scheme and excellent benefits.
