Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking an Ecologist based in Sunderland to join a well-established environmental consultancy. You will conduct ecological surveys, habitat assessments and prepare technical reports, while supporting Biodiversity Net Gain and protected species work.

The role offers hybrid and flexible working with opportunities across the UK portfolio. The ideal candidate has a relevant ecology degree, consultancy experience, and a full UK driving licence.

Ecologist

Salary: £30,000 - £40,000

Location: Sunderland

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Ecologist to join a well-established, independent multidisciplinary environmental consultancy. The company works across ecology, planning, landscape, environmental assessment and technical services, delivering practical solutions that support biodiversity, sustainable development and nature recovery.

As an Ecologist, you will join a collaborative and supportive ecology team, contributing to a varied portfolio of projects across the UK. The Ecologist will undertake ecological surveys, habitat assessments and technical reporting, while supporting Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), protected species work and wider ecological assessments. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside other environmental disciplines.

Requirements

• A relevant degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related subject
• Previous ecological consultancy experience
• Experience undertaking ecological surveys and producing technical reports
• Knowledge of UK habitats, protected species and relevant legislation
• BNG experience would be advantageous
• Full UK driving licence
• Full right to work in the UK
• Be living in or within a commutable distance of Sunderland
