Position Overview
AirEx is excited to be opening a position for an experienced Financial Controller. Reporting to the CFO, the financial controller will have autonomy over our core finance function and ensure strong, scalable financial operations.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic business where you'll play a key role in shaping our financial infrastructure. You'll work closely with the senior leadership team, gain valuable experience in FP&A and have significant scope for development and progression as the company continues to scale.
In This Role You Will Be Responsible For
- Monitoring and managing cash flow, looking for ways to improve liquidity, manage risk, and fund the company’s continuing growth.
- Overseeing the company's financial controls and processes, ensuring that they are appropriate for a small but fast growing business, yet effective to manage risk, and prevent errors and misuse
- Maintaining accurate financial and tax records, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements, regulatory standards and accounting practices.
- Overseeing the preparation of payroll and timely payment to employees.
- Overseeing the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring timely reporting for stakeholders and investors.
- Ensuring the company’s policies and procedures are documented, regularly updated and communicated to all stakeholders.
- Project managing the annual external audit, coordinating with the auditors to ensure all testing requirements are met and that the annual accounts are prepared and signed-off on-time.
- Supporting funding rounds, maintaining the cap table and share register, liaising with HMRC for EIS certification and issuing EIS1 and EIS3 certificates.
- Administrating the financial system (Xero), ensuring all data is protected and access is restricted, implementing new systems and integrations as the company grows.
You Will Have
- A strong commitment to sustainability and combatting fuel poverty.
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with 3+ years' post-qualification experience, including 1–2 years in a Financial Controller or similar senior finance role.
- Experience owning the full company balance sheet and P&L
- A track record of project managing external audits and ensuring financial compliance
- Strong knowledge of HMRC compliance and tax submissions, with some exposure to claiming R&D tax credits being a bonus.
- A driven, efficient, and impact-focused mindset- continuously seeking opportunities to ‘add value’, whether it is simplifying and automating processes, enhancing reporting, improving accuracy, or managing risk.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams and at all levels of management.
- Excellent project management skills, being able to deliver long-term objectives alongside maintaining day-to-day responsibilities.
- Ideally experience in a scale-up, SME or familiarity with the product environment.
