The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and pragmatic employment lawyer capable of managing a varied caseload, partnering with stakeholders across the organization, and providing strategic employment legal advice across our UK and EMEA locations.
Essential skills/Basic qualifications:
- Solicitor or barrister qualified in the UK or an equivalent commonwealth jurisdiction.
- Experience working in a leading law firm focusing on large employer clients.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and negotiation skills.
- Technical expertise in employment law, including strong Employment Tribunal litigation experience.
Desirable skills/Preferred qualifications:
- Financial services experience (in-house or as a client).
- Experience advising on employment-related regulatory issues.
- Confidence in supporting corporate transactional activities.
This role can be based in either London or Manchester.
Purpose of the role
To ensure that the Employment, Incentives, and Pensions (EIP) activities of the bank comply with applicable laws and regulations and to help manage legal risks associated with these activities.
Accountabilities
- Developing and implementing best practice legal strategies for risk management and compliance.
- Providing legal advice and support to Human Resources and business units on EIP issues, including recruitment, policies, diversity, change programs, investigations, disputes, compensation, benefits, and pension matters.
- Representing the bank in legal proceedings related to EIP matters, such as litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations.
- Creating and reviewing legal documents such as employee contracts, policies, severance agreements, incentive plans, and pension documentation.
- Conducting legal research to stay updated on changes in laws and regulations affecting the bank's EIP activities.
- Developing and delivering training programs on legal and regulatory requirements related to employment, incentives, or pension matters.
- Proactively identifying, communicating, and advising on applicable laws, rules, and regulations, ensuring they are reflected in policies, standards, and controls.
