Job Description:

With over 30 years of civil engineering, earthworks, and groundworks experience, our client offers an integrated project delivery solution within the highways and railway sectors.

Due to new tenders and enquiries, our client needs a freelance civil engineering Estimator, on an Outside IR35 basis, to work alongside and advise the Commercial Manager and the wider commercial team.

This is an initial 6-month Outside IR35 contract, with potential for long-term opportunity.

Estimator roles and responsibilities:

• Report to the Commercial Manager and work with the pre-construction team to price civil engineering, earthworks, and drainage packages from first principles, with a solid understanding of civil engineering techniques, outputs, and resources.
• Develop and manage cost estimates aligned with tender documentation and project requirements.
• Collaborate with the Commercial Manager to produce budgets, cost plans, and design-to-cost budgets.
• Produce and deliver accurate cost estimates, tender summaries, and risk registers.
• Present cost estimates at internal and external meetings confidently.
• Possess an engineering background with a degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or similar, along with relevant experience.
• Have at least 5 years of experience working on Civil Engineering projects.
• Experience in pricing earthworks and drainage packages from first principles and reading drawings.
• Proficient with estimating software and strong IT skills.
• Understand project constraints affecting delivery costs.
• Have commercial acumen and contractual awareness.
• Ability to take off quantities from drawings.
• Ability to liaise with internal and external clients.
• Be part of an established and growing civil engineering firm.
