Job summary

The De Montfort School (TDMS) is seeking an enthusiastic EAL Teaching Assistant to support students in our English as an Additional Language hub. The post is term-time, 32.5 hours per week, with pay at the TA2, point 5–6 scale (£26,427–£26,846 pro rata).

The role reports to the Head of MFL & EAL and begins 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible. The successful candidate will have fluent English and Ukrainian, preferably Bulgarian/Polish/Romanian/Russian, a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA qualification,

About the role:

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic teaching assistant to work in our EAL (English as an Additional Language) hub at TDMS. Our school has an EAL population of approx. 25% with students coming from a wide range of linguistic backgrounds, including Bulgarian, Polish, Romanian and Ukrainian. We established our EAL department in January 2022 and have a permanent base within the school where we support numerous students daily with their acquisition of English in order to enable them to access the UK curriculum.The post is term time weekdays only plus the school training days. The school day is 8.30am – 3.30pm and this post would be paid at a minimum of TA2, point 5 (£26,427 per annum, pro-rated), however hours and pay are negotiable dependant on qualifications and experience. The role is expected to start on 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. This role reports to the Head of MFL & EAL. Our successful candidate will have the following experience, skillset and qualifications: The ability to speak fluent English and Ukrainian and if possible Bulgarian, Polish, Romanian, Russian A relevant qualification (TEFL/TESOL/CELTA) and experience of teaching English as a foreign language Previous teaching experience, either in the UK or overseas Experience of procedures relating to child protection and safeguarding Good IT, numeracy and literacy skills
