Job summary

The Education Alliance is hiring a Teaching Assistant for Howden Junior School to support teaching, learning and care for pupils. The role involves helping with emotional and behavioural needs and supporting individual or small groups during school hours.

The position offers school-term hours with additional hours and a salary paid annually. The successful candidate will contribute to a whole-school approach to emotional literacy and pupil development, and join a supportive HR team for

Qualifications

  • The successful applicant will have good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • An ELSA qualification at Level 2 or equivalent is required or desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties to access the curriculum.
  • Assist in identified areas (language, behaviour, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting, ICT, EAL).
  • Meet pupils' physical needs and encourage independence; liaise with class teacher and SENCO.
  • Develop resources to support pupil(s).

Job description

Howden Junior School are looking for an individual who is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of pupils to join our friendly and dedicated team of Teaching Assistants who play a vital role in supporting and assisting the teaching, learning and care of pupils within our school.

The working hours are up to 31.25 per week during the school term, Monday to Friday, during the school term, plus an additional 31.25 hours. The post holder will also support with lunchtime supervision of the pupils. Your actual salary will be £18,855.87 per annum, and this is paid in 12 equal instalments over the year.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities associated with this role involve supporting pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties so they can effectively access the school curriculum and to support and encourage a whole school approach which allows pupils to acquire and develop emotional literacy skills, including but not limited to:

  • Work with individuals or small groups of pupils
  • Assisting in identified areas, e.g. language, behaviour, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting/presentation, the use of ICT, social skills and EAL
  • Meeting the physical needs of pupils as required whilst encouraging independence
  • Liaising with the class teacher and SENCO about individual needs
  • Developing appropriate resources to support the pupil(s)
