Job summary

Grove Academy in Slough is seeking an experienced EAL support role to provide English language assistance to pupils with English as an Additional Language. The post involves working in class and in targeted interventions, plus pastoral support for newly arrived pupils and their families.

You will partner with teachers to plan lessons, deliver language development across the curriculum, and monitor progress using the EAL framework.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering English language support to pupils with English as an Additional Language.
  • Experience supporting newly arrived pupils and families.
  • Ability to carry out language assessments for new EAL pupils.
  • Strong communication with parents and carers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide English language support to pupils for whom English is an Additional Language, in class and in small groups or 1:1.
  • Support newly arrived pupils and their families, helping them settle in and providing pastoral support.
  • Participate in admissions for new EAL pupils, including initial language assessments.
  • Work with teachers to plan lessons and develop resources for EAL learners.
  • Deliver targeted language support to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing across the curriculum.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress using the school's EAL assessment framework.
  • Build relationships with parents and carers, communicating progress and wellbeing.
  • Support colleagues in understanding pupils' linguistic, cultural and religious backgrounds.
  • Promote positive behaviour and engage pupils in school life.
  • Collaborate to ensure every pupil can reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide English language support to pupils for whom English is an Additional Language, both in class and through targeted small group or one-to-one interventions.
  • Support newly arrived pupils and their families, helping them to settle into school and providing appropriate pastoral support.
  • Participate in the admissions process for new EAL pupils, including carrying out initial language assessments and sharing information with staff.
  • Work closely with teachers to plan lessons and develop resources that meet the needs of EAL learners.
  • Deliver targeted language support to develop pupils\' speaking, listening, reading and writing skills across the curriculum.
  • Monitor, assess and record pupils\' progress using the school\'s EAL assessment framework.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers, maintaining effective communication regarding pupils\' progress and wellbeing.
  • Support colleagues in developing their understanding of the linguistic, cultural and religious backgrounds of EAL pupils.
  • Promote positive behaviour, and encourage pupils to engage confidently in all aspects of school life.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
