Customer Service Assistant – Royal Navy Ships

Salary: £25,812.80/annum

Sea Allowance:Sea allowance of £1.20 per contractual hours for the duration that you are at sea for periods in excess of one month. c.£208 per month.

Location: Royal Navy Ships / Ships Shoreside

Hours: Full Time - 40 Hours/week

NAAFI are seeking individuals who are passionate about customer service to come and work with us in the NAAFI Royal Navy. This is a great opportunity to experience this unique Naval environment and to see the world whilst at work.

You will be passionate about customer service, by excelling at communicating and serving or customers and continuously delivering and maintaining excellent standards throughout all aspects of our business.

The successful applicant must have the ability to work under their own initiative, to live in close quarters on-board ship and represent NAAFI appropriately when socialising with the ship’s crew on deployments for up to 10 months at a time. When not at sea you will either work on a ship shoreside or along-side the British Military as Customer Service Assistant in one of our other locations worldwide (accommodation provided).

As the job is spending a lot of time away from home (up to 10 months per year), applicants must consider if this fits in with their personal circumstances prior to applying.

Responsibilities of the role of Naval Ships Customer Service Assistant with NAAFI:

To be passionate about customer service, through providing an excellent level of service to our customers. Assist your establishment team to achieve its targets and to continuously deliver and maintain excellent standards through all aspects of our business. Protect and promote NAAFI and ensure our customers and colleagues have an enjoyable NAAFI Experience. Use integrity and respect at all times and in all aspect of your daily duties.

  • Serve and deal with customers in a proactive, courteous, friendly and helpful manner;
  • Responsible for maintaining the highest levels of personal hygiene, appearance and conduct;
  • Responsible for ensuring Health & Safety, and Food Safety standards are met, including, but not limited to, manual handling;
  • Actively promote NAAFI and sales activity by proactively offering advice to customers and acting on their comments and suggestions in order to increase sales and our brand image;
  • Accept and accurately process payment for goods and food using a variety of methods;
  • Prepare and serve food and drinks in line with all Food Safety and HACCP requirements;
  • Check and replenish stock levels ensuring all legislation is met as well as NAAFI requirements on quality and presentation;
  • Proactively maintain the cleanliness, hygiene and health and safety of our premises and ensure the requirements of any cleaning rotas and schedules are completed;
  • Assist colleagues in the completion of outlet daily, weekly and monthly tasks as directed by the outlet schedules and line manager;
  • Requirement to carry out various driving duties as and when required;
  • To undertake any reasonable request within the scope and grade of the role and to carry out other duties as reasonably requested by NAAFI for the needs of the business to enable delivery of service, including taking part in activities in the wider operational part of the business as and when required.

Requirements for the role of Naval Ships Customer Service Assistant with NAAFI:

  • Must pass an ENG 1 Medical, a Sea Survival course and the relevant security clearance
  • Demonstratable retail or customer service experience and the ability to communicate effectively with people
  • Ability to work on under your own initiative and as part of a team

In addition, you will be required to sign up to the Naval Reserves and working time directive opt out as part of the contract.
