Newington Nursery is seeking an Early Years Support Assistant. The role involves working 30.50 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, with work patterns to be discussed at interview. This is a fixed-term position for 1 year, which may be suitable for secondment with prior approval from your line manager. Applications from those wishing for fewer hours are welcome.
Our nursery caters to children aged 2/3-5 years old. We aim to provide an enriching, nurturing environment both indoors and outdoors to promote children’s independence and curiosity.
Applicants should be educated to SCQF level 6 in Social Services, Children & Young People, or an equivalent qualification. The successful candidate will be adaptable, able to meet the educational and social needs of nursery pupils, and actively participate in curriculum development following school policies, including pupil assessment. Collaboration with staff, colleagues, agencies, and parents is essential.
Applicants must hold a relevant qualification enabling registration with The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a Support Worker in Day Care Children’s Services without conditions. For acceptable qualifications, see: https://www.sssc.uk.com/knowledgebase/article/KA-02525/en-us.
Successful applicants will be required to register with the SSSC within 3 months of appointment.
Our nursery operates between 8.00am and 6.00pm; working patterns will meet service needs.
This position is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Candidates will need to join or update their PVG scheme before employment begins.
Applicants with residence outside the UK within the last 5 years must provide a police record check from the relevant authorities if offered the position.
