About The Role

Role Purpose

To support the Finance Department in the production of accurate and timely financial reports, assist with budget management, and provide analytical insight to aid strategic decision-making across the football club and associated operations.

Main areas of responsibility

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process across multiple departments.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with the production of cash flow reports and working capital management.
  • Liaise with department heads to track spend vs budget and provide financial insight.
  • Support the Club's reporting obligations to the EFL, including Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP) requirements.
  • Process accruals, prepayments, and journal entries accurately and on time.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts and liaise with auditors.
  • Monitor and report on matchday income and expenses, including ticketing, catering and hospitality revenue.
  • Contribute to financial modelling for transfers, wages, and squad planning in collaboration with senior finance staff.
  • Assist with internal controls and compliance, ensuring financial procedures are adhered to.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required by the Financial Controller or club executives.

About The Candidate

Essential Requirements

Experience
  • Experience in management accounts or having worked within a finance function.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong Excel and financial systems skills.
  • Good attention to details and high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communicator, capable of working with both financial and non-financial colleagues.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, dynamic sports environment.
Desirable Requirements

Qualifications
  • Part qualified in a relevant accountancy qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACA etc)
Experience
  • Previous experience in the sports, entertainment or events industry.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualities
  • Understanding of football club operations and EFL financial regulations.
  • Knowledge of financial software (e.g. Access, Xero, SAP or similar)
