Location: Remote/Hybrid

Organisation Overview

NeuroBloom ( Autistic Community Canvas) is a purpose-driven organisation advancing toward registration as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). We aim to support neurodiverse children and adults in expressing themselves through art-based initiatives. Our mission is to empower neurodiverse individuals to connect with the wider community through inclusive, creative experiences.

Our core values are: Empathy, Creativity, Development, Inclusion & Neurodiversity.

Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a Pro Bono Audit and Filing Manager / Accountant with experience in charity accounting and statutory compliance to oversee financial reporting obligations to the Charity Commission and, where applicable, Companies House. This is a crucial volunteer role to ensure our financial and governance records meet all legal requirements as we transition into a registered CIO and maintain best practice standards.

Working closely with the Treasurer Trustee and other board members, the role involves managing annual audits, filing statutory accounts, supporting funding transparency, and ensuring timely submissions in compliance with relevant UK regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Annual Accounts & Compliance:
  • Prepare or coordinate the preparation of annual financial statements in line with Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice).
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of annual accounts and confirmation statements with the Charity Commission (and Companies House if applicable).
  • Oversee external audit or independent examination, liaising with auditors where necessary.
  • Filing Management:
  • Maintain a comprehensive calendar of reporting deadlines (including Annual Return, Accounts, and Trustee Reports).
  • Ensure proper documentation and digital filing of records required for public disclosure and internal audits.
  • Policy & Procedure Oversight:
  • Develop and review internal financial governance procedures to ensure alignment with current charity regulations.
  • Implement processes that support accuracy, transparency, and accountability.
  • Financial Risk Management:
  • Monitor regulatory risks, providing advice to the board on charity finance law and filing compliance.
  • Support internal risk assessments relating to finance, governance, and controls.
  • Liaison and Reporting:
  • Provide clear, timely financial and compliance updates to the board of trustees.
  • Advise on financial implications of strategic decisions and ensure governance actions align with reporting obligations.

Qualifications

  • Accounting or Audit Qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) – essential
  • Charity sector experience with direct knowledge of SORP, Charity Commission filing, and ideally Companies House – highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of UK charity regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with a strong eye for detail
  • Clear communication skills, able to explain filing and audit requirements to non-financial stakeholders
  • Proficient in financial reporting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, or similar) and Excel

What We Offer

  • Impactful Role: Directly influence the compliance and long-term sustainability of a growing charity supporting the neurodiverse community
  • Flexible Work Environment: Remote working with occasional collaborative sessions as needed
  • Professional Development: Gain or extend experience in charity governance and financial oversight
  • Collaborative Team Culture: Work alongside a passionate group of trustees and volunteers in a creative and inclusive space
