As our new Environmental Services Manager, you'll play a vital role in protecting and enhancing our local environment, helping to create cleaner, safer spaces that residents can truly enjoy. This is a hands-on role where your leadership and ideas will make a visible difference.
Working Style:
You'll be based in the Borough for four days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.
What you'll be doing
You'll be responsible for managing our contracted grounds maintenance and tree services, making sure they meet the highest standards across all estates and play areas. Leading a team of project managers, you'll oversee a range of environmental improvement projects - from initial concept through to delivery - with a focus on community engagement at every stage.
You'll manage our Estate Improvement budget strategically, while also identifying and securing additional funding for new initiatives. These could include green energy projects, improved lighting, CCTV, landscaping, playground upgrades or better storage facilities for bikes. You'll also take the lead in planning for the security of blocks during the Notting Hill Carnival, ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved.

What you'll bring
We're looking for someone with strong experience in both project and contract management and a proven track record of working effectively with residents. You'll need to be comfortable holding contractors to account, delivering work to tight deadlines and ensuring every pound spent delivers real value.
Excellent communication skills are key, along with a good understanding of health and safety and knowledge of horticulture or arboriculture. While not essential, a qualification in a relevant field to HND level or higher would be beneficial. Above all, you'll be proactive, resilient and able to navigate a fast-paced political environment where priorities can shift - all while keeping your focus on delivering practical, lasting improvements.
