Job description

We are March, the UK's leading provider of critical engineering services. Our expertise as a multi-disciplinary engineering partner across infrastructure, process, and digital services has led to long-term partnerships with leading organizations in sectors such as food and drink, utilities, and high-security industries like defence, aerospace, and nuclear.

Due to continued growth, we are now seeking a Senior Commercial Manager to join our infrastructure team based in Burton Upon Trent. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the financial and commercial aspects of part of our Infrastructure business.

Your responsibilities will include estimating and bid writing, supporting business development efforts, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations. This role requires strong leadership to support the Operations Director in delivering profitable growth for our successful business.

Our Infrastructure team delivers M&E projects across sectors including Defence, Retail, Rail, Commercial, Industrial, and Healthcare throughout England. Projects range from:

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers in line with the Group Commercial Policy.
  2. Disseminate key contractual mechanisms and notifications to the project team and advise on contract administration.
  3. Ensure all contractual obligations are met and manage amendments or disputes.
  4. Identify potential risks during tender stage and document in the risk register, developing mitigation plans as needed.
  5. Support the Operations Director with risk management at project and business levels.
  6. Contribute to the strategic direction and long-term growth initiatives of the company.
  7. Monitor and control costs to ensure projects are completed within budget.
  8. Resolve challenges, disputes, or issues arising during project execution.
  9. Manage project budgets, control costs, and prepare comprehensive CVRs.
  10. Identify, cost, and agree on changes/variations promptly, ensuring March’s entitlement is recovered.
  11. Provide regular updates on financial targets and forecasts to senior management.
Skills and Experiences:
  1. Proven track record managing the commercial aspects of MEP projects.
  2. Minimum of 5 years experience as a Commercial Manager.
  3. Experience with MEP building services, including LV & HV infrastructure, lighting, small power, data networks, HVAC, LTHW, and renewables (desirable).
  4. Excellent listening, questioning, and consulting skills.
  5. Outstanding people management abilities.
  6. Strong communication and networking skills at all levels.
Qualifications:
  1. Full UK driving license.
  2. Passionate and experienced Commercial Manager with a proven record in client and stakeholder management and problem solving.
  3. Relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  4. Membership of a recognized professional body (desirable).
