Job description

Job Title: Science Technician

Are you an enthusiastic and resourceful Science Technician looking for a new challenge? Do you have the practical skills and personality required to motivate and energise Science pupils and staff? Are you passionate about the Science Curriculum and helping pupils achieve their full potential?

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, highly organised, and experienced Science Technician to join our friendly and supportive Science Department. The successful candidate will inspire pupils through their passion for Science, drive practical teaching and learning, and demonstrate a strong desire to improve pupil achievement. As Washwood Heath Academy is an All-through Academy, there is potential to support practical curriculum across Key Stages 1 to 5 and collaborate with colleagues in the Primary phase to enhance understanding of pupils' practical skills development.

Washwood Heath Academy is a relatively new All-through Academy (Primary, Secondary, and Sixth Form) in East Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established Science team and contribute to a faculty committed to providing a first-class education. Our curriculum is knowledge-rich, where Science teachers and technicians are the experts conveying knowledge and skills to pupils. We believe all pupils deserve to learn about the best that has been thought and said (Matthew Arnold).

We Can Offer You
  • A collaborative and inclusive culture with opportunities for professional development within your school and Trust-wide.
  • Structured CPD through access to the National College online platform and apprenticeships, such as Level 7 Senior Leaders Masters, with regular twilight sessions.
  • Support for career planning via our Professional Growth and Performance (PPG) process.
  • A wellbeing culture, including paid and unpaid leave for life events, access to a Wellbeing Champion, and participation in staff wellbeing surveys.
  • Access to a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), including confidential counselling and wellbeing advice.
  • Supportive policies like Life Leave, Wellbeing, Career Break, and Family Friendly policies.
  • Participation in key Trust-wide groups such as the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Wellbeing groups.
  • Onsite parking at all schools.

This position is suitable for any Scientist with a minimum of a UK Level 3 Science Qualification (or equivalent) seeking a new challenge. CVs will not be accepted.

Washwood Heath Multi Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.

This role requires fluent spoken English and is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016).

We value our staff and are committed to diversity, inclusion, and flexible working arrangements where operationally feasible. We also ensure fair and respectful recruitment processes.

Note: This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; certain convictions may not need to be disclosed.
