Job Description:

Space science is at the core of understanding the Universe's origins and future. The sensor device technology includes Charge Coupled Devices (CCDs), CMOS image detectors (visible and infra-red) and their associated Read Out ICs (ROICs). From the earliest signs of the Big Bang to the effects of solar activity on the Earth, the detailed scientific information and images obtained with Space Imaging’s CCD and CMOS sensors are helping us understand more about our surroundings.

The imaging sensors developed and tested at the Chelmsford site have been used on humanity's most important space imaging missions, including the Hubble Telescope, Kepler, GAIA, Mars Rovers, New Horizons, and Rosetta.

Key responsibilities: Hardware Engineer

• Design and develop full PCB solutions for space applications, including component selection, schematic capture, analysis, documentation, stack-up definition, and managing external layout activities.
• Prepare and present concepts and designs that meet requirement specifications, driven by internal and external customer needs. Maintain and update compliance verification matrices regarding electrical requirements.
• Capture detailed system architecture using interface diagrams and charts; use them to enhance lifecycle documentation to facilitate gate reviews and efficient development progress.
• Prepare and present all necessary electrical design documentation for gate reviews, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders.
• Play a key role in developing departmental capabilities, including mentoring and training engineers within the team.
• Lead verification and testing of electronics, and prepare well-structured documentation related to these activities.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications: Hardware Engineer

• Knowledge of PCB design approaches for high-speed circuitry.
• Ability to create innovative electronic designs that add value to test systems.
• Experience working to high-reliability standards.
• Proficiency in PCB CAD tools, preferably CADENCE or ALTIUM.
• Strong understanding of electronics and electrical interfaces.
• Ability to communicate complex technical data clearly and effectively.
• Experience with space electronics is advantageous.
