Job Description:

Senior / Principal FPGA Engineer – Space Imaging in Chelmsford, Essex (4 days p/w in office). Salary: £45,000 - £65,000 + excellent benefits.

Space Imaging is expanding its portfolio to develop Front End Electronics (FEE) systems for space applications. These systems include CMOS detectors, FEE, FPGA (VHDL), and Microprocessors, requiring high-reliability FPGA designs for space missions lasting 5 years or longer.

We seek a key individual to work within a multidisciplinary team, requiring knowledge of device operation and practical FPGA coding to develop next-generation FEE products. Existing FPGA designs are typically created using VHDL with Microchip Libero and Xilinx Vivado.

Essential Experience:

• 3+ years of industrial FPGA design experience in VHDL
• Use of Microchip Libero and/or Xilinx Vivado
• Functional verification with self-checking test benches and simulation
• Timing verification with constraints and analysis
• Estimating and defining FPGA delivery tasks
• Documentation including requirements, design, reports, tests, manuals, instructions
• Use of electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)

You will be responsible for the entire FPGA development lifecycle, working closely with embedded software, electronics, and systems engineers to meet customer requirements.

Advantageous Skills & Experience:

• Experience in spaceflight, aerospace, or defense FPGA design
• Knowledge of ECSS standards and development processes
• High-speed (Gigabit) transceiver interfaces
• Design techniques for high reliability and radiation environments
• Requirement verification using UVVM test benches
• Knowledge of SpaceWire and RMAP/CCSDS protocols
