Job summary

Supply Desk is seeking a confident, reliable Cover Supervisor for a secondary school in Watford from September. You will supervise classes, deliver pre-prepared lessons, and maintain a structured learning environment to support pupil progress.

The ideal candidate has experience with young people, strong classroom management, excellent communication, and the ability to work across different subjects and year groups.

Qualifications

• Has previous experience working with young people in a school, education, youth work, or similar setting.
• Has strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
• Is confident supervising groups of secondary school pupils independently.
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Is able to follow lesson plans and deliver instructions clearly and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Supervise classes across a range of subjects and year groups in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
• Deliver pre-prepared lesson plans and learning activities, ensuring pupils remain engaged and focused.
• Maintain a calm, positive, and purposeful classroom environment.
• Manage pupil behaviour effectively in line with the school's behaviour policies and procedures.
• Provide clear instructions and support pupils with their learning where appropriate.
• Ensure pupils complete assigned tasks and make appropriate progress during lessons.
• Monitor pupil engagement and behaviour, providing feedback to teaching staff where required.
• Establish positive and professional relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
• Support pupils with different learning needs and encourage an inclusive classroom environment.
• Assist with classroom organisation and other duties as required by the school.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and the wider school team.
• Contribute to the wider school community through enrichment activities and school events.
• Uphold high standards of safeguarding, behaviour, and pupil wellbeing.
