Job summary

Bury Council Leisure is recruiting two Duty Officers to join the team at Radcliffe Hub, covering three leisure buildings with annualised hours, including evenings and weekends. You will lead front-line teams, ensure safe operations and deliver a welcoming experience for customers across the facilities.

This role requires supervisory experience in a customer-facing environment, a strong focus on service, and relevant qualifications (NPLQ, First Aid at Work, Pool Plant Operator) with a commitment

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a supervisory or team leadership role in a customer-facing environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to connect with and inspire people.
  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or commitment to gain within 3 months of appointment.
  • First Aid at Work qualification or commitment to gain within 3 months of appointment.
  • Pool Plant Operator's qualification or commitment to gain within 3 months of appointment.
  • Solid understanding of health and safety legislation and its day-to-day practical application.

Responsibilities

  • Take full shift responsibility for the operation of the facility.
  • Lead a frontline team across multiple roles to ensure safe, efficient and welcoming operation.
  • Set the tone for the team, customers and the facility during each shift.
  • Respond to operational needs, cover manager leave and other absences as required.

Bury Leisure is looking to recruit 2 candidates to work as Duty Officers on annualised basis. Annualised hours are contracts with no fixed shift pattern, the successful candidates will be required to cover managers leave and other absence. Successful candidates will be required to work across all three leisure buildings including evening and weekends.

We're looking for a Duty Officer who is ready to be right at the heart of it.

About the Role:

As a Duty Officer for Bury Leisure, you'll be one of the key operational leaders responsible for keeping our facilities running safely, efficiently and brilliantly every single day.

You’ll take full shift responsibility for the operation of the facility, leading a diverse and talented frontline team that includes Senior Lifeguards, Lifeguards, Gym Instructors, Swimming Instructors, Housekeeping staff, Concierge staff and Clip and Climb staff. You’ll be the person who sets the tone for your team, for your customers and for the facility itself.

This is a role for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, someone who takes genuine pride in their facility and their team and someone who understands that well-run, welcoming leisure centres don’t just serve communities they genuinely change lives.

What We're Looking For:

We're looking for someone with genuine energy, leadership confidence and a real passion for leisure, sport and community wellbeing. You’ll be comfortable leading from the front, making decisions under pressure and inspiring others around you. Ideally with:

  • Proven experience in a supervisory or team leadership role in a customer-facing environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a natural ability to connect with and inspire people.
  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or commitment to gain within 3 months of appointment.
  • Valid First Aid at Work qualification or commitment to gain within 3 months of appointment.
  • Valid Pool Plant Operator's qualification or commitment to gain within 3 months of appointment.
  • Solid understanding of health and safety legislation and its day-to-day practical application.
