Job summary

Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) is seeking a Duty Manager for the College Lake Visitor Centre in Tring to ensure smooth daily operations and exceptional visitor experience. The role covers 14 hours per week on a 2-day rota, with a 3-week cycle and weekend requirements.

You will oversee staff and volunteers during shifts, manage cash and events, and support retail and visitor services while upholding BBOWT values. DBS checked on appointment, training provided as needed.

Qualifications

• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Accurate cash handling and reconciliation
• Friendly, professional interaction with visitors, members and volunteers
• Willingness to undertake Level 2 Food Safety, First Aid at Work and Fire Marshal training within six months

Responsibilities

• Open and close the visitor centre; manage cash, staff and events.
• Provide a positive visitor experience with high standards of customer service.
• Coordinate cover for reception and café staff; manage shifts and volunteers.
• Act as duty manager and head fire marshal during emergencies.
• Ensure tidiness and cleanliness to meet retail, catering and visitor service standards.
• Contribute to projects supporting Visitor Centre objectives (shop, interpretation, trails, marketing).
• Perform other duties as delegated by the line manager or Chief Executive
