Job summary

Serco Limited, on behalf of More Leisure Community Trust, is seeking a Duty Manager at Putlands Sports & Leisure Centre to lead daily operations and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for customers and staff. The role requires supervising operations, driving service excellence and supporting team development.

The position is permanent, part-time (20 hours/week) across a 2-week rota, with varied shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

• Experience in a supervisory or management role within a leisure, hospitality or customer-facing environment.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support and develop colleagues.
• Commitment to health and safety, customer care and delivering high-quality services.
• Capable of making decisions, prioritising and acting in emergencies; proficient with IT systems.

Responsibilities

• Support the Centre Manager and leadership team with day-to-day operation of the leisure centre.
• Manage shift operations to ensure a safe, efficient, welcoming environment.
• Lead lifeguarding, housekeeping and facility standards across the centre.
• Handle incidents and emergencies, conducting investigations and follow-up actions where required.
• Support colleague training, induction and development for high service standards.
• Drive growth and continuous improvement through stock management, rota planning and operational excellence.

Duty Manager

Location: Putlands Sports & Leisure Centre, TN12 6NZ

Salary: £13,500 to £14,500 plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Permanent, Part-time, 20 hours per week, 2-week rota across 7 days (3 days off per week) flexibility is required to work across 7 days. Shift times Monday to Friday: 7am to 2pm or 2pm to 9pm. Shift times Saturday & Sunday: 7.45am to 4pm or 7.45am to 2pm

What you'll do as a Duty Manager

• Support the Centre Manager and wider leadership team with the day-to-day operation of the leisure centre
• Take responsibility for shift management, ensuring a safe, efficient and welcoming environment for customers and colleagues
• Lead and support lifeguarding, housekeeping and facility presentation standards throughout the centre
• Manage incidents, accidents and emergencies, carrying out investigations and follow-up actions where required
• Support colleague training, induction and development to ensure high standards of service and compliance
• Help drive growth, innovation and continuous improvement through stock management, rota planning and operational excellence

• Have experience in a supervisory or management role within a leisure, hospitality or customer-facing environment
• Demonstrate strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support and develop colleagues
• Have a commitment to health and safety, customer care and delivering high-quality services
• Be confident making decisions, managing priorities and responding effectively in emergency situations
• Good IT skills (CRM, Internal Platforms, Word, Excel)

Vetting and checks

This role requires a Basic DBS check, which will disclose any unspent convictions in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to help us identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
