Job summary

Serco Leisure is recruiting on behalf of Leisure Solutions Community Trust for a Duty Manager at Westgate Leisure Centre, Chichester. You will lead day-to-day operations, ensuring a safe, welcoming atmosphere and high service standards while supporting staff and delivering community-focused activities.

The role requires experience in lifeguarding or managing leisure teams, strong health and safety knowledge, and good communication.

Qualifications

• Experience as Lifeguard or managing teams within a leisure environment.
• Strong understanding of health and safety practices, with the confidence to lead during emergencies.
• Commercial awareness and experience supporting sales, customer engagement or service improvement initiatives.
• Ability to organise, prioritise and manage multiple operational demands.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and motivate others.
• A valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)

• Drive commercial performance by supporting sales activity and customer service standards.
• Oversee daily operations, including opening/closing and rotas.
• Monitor facility, maintain cleanliness, safety and presentation.

• Support Lifeguarding duties as required.

Location: Westgate Leisure Centre, Chichester, PO19 1RJ

Salary: £28,908.08 pro rata (based on 30 hours per week) plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Permanent, 30 hours per week, 3-week rota with various shift times across 7 days, typical weekday shift times: 6am to 2pm or 2pm to 10.30pm, typical weekend shift times: 6am to 12.30pm, 7.30am to 8pm or 1pm to 8pm

By supporting colleagues, maintaining high standards and ensuring activities run smoothly, you'll have a positive impact on communities, helping more people stay active, connected and healthy while contributing to a better future.

What You’ll Do As a Duty Manager

• Lead on health, safety and quality, ensuring compliance with legislation, maintaining safe systems of work and taking control during incidents and emergencies.
• Drive commercial performance by supporting sales activity, member retention and excellent customer service standards.
• Oversee daily operations, including opening and closing the centre, managing rotas and ensuring programmes are delivered effectively.
• Monitor the facility and proactively resolve issues to maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety and presentation.
• Lead, coach and develop colleagues, supporting growth and consistent performance across the team.
• Act as a visible leader, building trust with customers and responding positively to feedback, queries and community needs.
• Support with Lifeguarding duties as required.

Does this sound like you?

• Proven experience as a Lifeguard or managing teams within a leisure environment.

Vetting and checks

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
