Job summary

Birkbeck, University of London is hiring a Duty Manager for Campus Experience & Security on a permanent basis. You will lead daytime security operations, manage rosters, and oversee control room functions to ensure a safe and welcoming campus for students, staff and visitors.

The role features a 4-on-4-off day shift (8am–8pm), 39 hours per week, with a London Pay Scale including a 7.5% allowance. A current SIA Door Supervisor and CCTV licence is required or must be obtained.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising or leading a security team.
• Experience responding to incidents and coordinating emergency situations.
• Knowledge of security operations, risk assessment and compliance requirements.
• Confidence using CCTV, access control and incident reporting systems.
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
• Current SIA Door Supervisor and CCTV licence, or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

Join us as Duty Manager (Campus Experience & Security - Day, 4-on-4-off) and play a key role in creating a safe, secure and welcoming environment for our diverse campus community. This role is offered on permanent contract, with 39 hours a week, working on a 4-on4-off shift pattern - the shift is between 8am and 8pm. As Duty Manager, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of campus security operations, helping to create a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. You will provide visible leadership to the daytime security team, ensuring high standards of service, professionalism and operational performance. You will manage rotas and staffing, oversee control room operations, coordinate incident response and support the safe delivery of campus events. Working closely with the Facilities Manager (Campus Experience & Security), you will contribute to service improvements, staff development and compliance with security, health and safety and data protection requirements. • £41,718 rising to £46,693 per year, including 7.5% allowance, Grade 5 on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance.

However, as postholders do not receive closure days, the annual leave entitlement will be 25 days rather than 31 days.
