Job summary

Birkbeck, University of London is hiring a Duty Manager for Campus Experience & Security on a permanent basis. You will lead daytime security operations, manage rosters, and oversee control room functions to ensure a safe and welcoming campus for students, staff and visitors.

The role features a 4-on-4-off day shift (8am–8pm), 39 hours per week, with a London Pay Scale including a 7.5% allowance. A current SIA Door Supervisor and CCTV licence is required or must be obtained.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising or leading a security team.
• Experience responding to incidents and coordinating emergency situations.
• Knowledge of security operations, risk assessment and compliance requirements.
• Confidence using CCTV, access control and incident reporting systems.
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
• Current SIA Door Supervisor and CCTV licence, or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day delivery of campus security operations.
• Manage rotas and staffing for the daytime security team.
• Oversee control room operations and incident response.
• Support the safe delivery of campus events and activities.
• Contribute to service improvements and staff development.
• Ensure compliance with security, health and safety and data protection requirements.
