Job summary

PK Education are seeking an experienced Design Technology Technician to provide ongoing cover in a Sheffield secondary school's DT department. You will prepare materials and resources for practical lessons, cut timber for student projects, and ensure workshop tools are safe and ready for use.

Working in a busy workshop, you will support teachers, manage stock levels, and help maintain health and safety compliance to create a safe learning environment for students.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Design Technology Technician or in a similar workshop role.
  • Awareness of SMHS and S1HS safety standards.
  • Ability to prepare timber and stock for student projects.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials and resources for DT lessons.
  • Cut timber and stock for student projects.
  • Maintain workshop equipment and ensure tools are safe.
  • Support teachers with lesson preparation and practical activities.
  • Manage stock levels and order materials as required.

Design Technology Technician – Secondary School

Location: Sheffield
Contract: Full-time, Temporary
Start Date: September 2026
Duration: Ongoing cover
Salary: £100–£170 per day (dependent on experience)

PK Education are working with a secondary school in Sheffield who are looking to appoint an experienced Design Technology Technician to provide ongoing cover within their DT department.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled workshop technician who enjoys supporting practical learning and maintaining a safe, organised working environment. You'll play a vital role in preparing materials and equipment, ensuring lessons run smoothly and students have everything they need to complete practical projects.

The school are looking for somebody who is confident working within a busy workshop environment and has experience preparing timber, cutting stock, maintaining equipment, and supporting teachers across the Design Technology department.

The Role
  • Preparing materials and resources for practical DT lessons

Essential Requirements
  • Experience working as a Design Technology Technician or within a similar workshop environment
  • Secondary Materials Health & Safety (SMHS)
  • Safe Use of Woodsawing Machines (S1HS)
  • Essential Health & Safety for D&T Workshop Technicians
Desirable Qualifications
  • Safe Use of Planer/Thicknesser Machine (S8HS)
