Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd is seeking an experienced Design Technology Technician to join a thriving secondary school in the Walsall/Birmingham area from September 2026. You will support a busy Design Technology department by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and assisting teachers and students.

The ideal candidate should have experience in a UK secondary school, with knowledge of safety procedures and DT tools. Strong organisational and communication skills are essential. This role offers a dynamic environment supporting practical learning.

Qualifications

Design Technology Technician

Location: Walsall / Birmingham
Start Date: September 2026
Pay Rate: £110–£120 per day

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Design Technology Technician to join a thriving secondary school in the Walsall/Birmingham area from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled individual to support a busy and successful Design Technology department. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring lessons run smoothly by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and supporting teachers and students across a range of practical subjects.

The school is looking for a reliable and organised technician who has previous experience working within a UK secondary school environment and understands the demands of a practical DT setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and organise materials, tools, and equipment for Design Technology lessons.
  • Support teaching staff during practical sessions when required.
  • Maintain workshops, classrooms, and storage areas to a high standard.
  • Ensure all equipment is safe, functional, and ready for use.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and basic repairs of tools and machinery.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels, ordering materials when necessary.
  • Support with the preparation of displays, projects, and examination coursework.
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to at all times.
  • Conduct risk assessments and maintain relevant safety records.
  • Assist with the safe storage and disposal of materials and equipment.
  • Provide technical support across a range of DT disciplines, including Resistant Materials, Product Design, Engineering, Graphics and CAD/CAM where applicable.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working as a Design Technology Technician within a UK secondary school.
  • Good understanding of workshop health and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of a range of DT tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
