Job summary

Vital Human Resources is seeking a Train Shunter in Goole to control movements of Traction & Rolling Stock safely, in line with procedures. The role is 40 hours per week, with a 07:00-15:00 pattern and occasional earlier starts to meet business needs.

Qualifications

• In-depth understanding of rail operations in private facilities, depots or yards.
• Experience as Designated Person, Shunter, Driver or similar roles in rail movements.
• Knowledge of Network Rail activities and standards.
• Strong communication skills and proficiency with computers.

Job description

Job title: Train Shunter

Pay rate: £22.12 per hour

Working hours: 40 hrs per week

Working pattern: 07:00-15:00, with some flexibility in start and finish times on occasion to meet business needs, e.g. 06:00-14:00

Location: Tom Pudding Way, Goole DN14 8GA, United Kingdom

Interviews will be competency based with the emphasis on safety. The manager will conduct the interview alongside another staff member from either the Logistics team or the HSE team. A drug and alcohol test and medical test, including a respiratory assessment, are required.

A role within the Logistics Movements team, responsible for the safe control of movements of Traction & Rolling stock in line with operating procedures.

Key functions of the role:

• Couple & Uncouple vehicles/sets/units
• Pass as a competent shunter
• Pass as a competent shunt vehicle driver

To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate:

• In depth understanding of rail operations in a private facility, depot or yard as well as a good understanding of rail operations throughout the wider UK network
• Experience working as Designated Person, Shunter, Driver or similar roles associated with Rail movements
• An understanding of Network Rail activities and standards
• Strong communication skills
• Proficient levels of computer literacy

Desirable experience includes:

• Experience of driving locomotives and shunting operations
• Experience working alongside Train Operating Companies (TOC's)
• Holds Sentinel PTS (not essential)
