Job summary

Nicholas Associates Group Limited is seeking experienced Shunter Drivers for a busy Teesside port environment. You will safely move trailers, containers and bulk products across operational areas within the port, aligning with fast-paced workflow.

The role requires a valid UK driving licence, prior shunter experience, and the ability to pass drug and alcohol tests. Immediate starts and full site induction are available.

Shunter Driver

Location: Teesside (Busy Port Environment)

Start Date: 3rd November 2026 (subject to change due to weather and vessel schedules)

Pay Rates

• Days: £16.00 per hour
• Nights: £24.00 per hour
• Saturday: £24.00 per hour (until midnight)
• Saturday after midnight: £32.00 per hour
• Sunday Nights: £32.00 per hour

Shift Pattern

• 06:00 - 18:00
• 18:00 - 06:00
• 12-hour shifts covering days, nights, and weekends
• Candidates must be flexible and available for the duration of the contract
• Additional work may be available for the right candidates

About the Role

We are currently recruiting experienced Shunter Drivers to support operations within a busy port environment in the Teesside area. The role involves the safe movement of trailers, containers, and bulk products across operational areas within the port. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with previous tug, shunting, trailer, container, or HGV driving experience who are looking to work within a fast-paced and dynamic port operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate shunt vehicles safely within the port.
• Move trailers, containers, and bulk products between operational areas.
• Connect and disconnect trailers as required.
• Complete vehicle safety inspections before and after each shift.
• Follow all site and port Health & Safety procedures.
• Liaise with operational teams to ensure the efficient movement of cargo.
• Report vehicle defects and safety concerns promptly.
• Maintain a professional and safety-focused approach at all times.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience as a Shunter Driver.
• Full UK Driving Licence with no major endorsements.
• Own transport and ability to travel reliably to site.
• Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, and public holidays if required.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety within transport, logistics, industrial, or port environments.
• Successful completion of a site driving assessment before commencement.
• Ability to pass a Drug & Alcohol test.
• Attendance at a site induction prior to starting.

Desirable Experience

• Container haulage experience.
• Trailer movement or yard shunting experience.
• Previous experience within a port, terminal, logistics, or transport operation.
• Experience handling bulk products.
• Experience working to strict operational deadlines.
