Job summary

The Lanes Group is seeking a Drainage Assistant to join the team at the Plymouth Depot, working from Rainham. The role is permanent, full-time, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with a starting salary of £13 per hour and benefits including enhanced overtime rates and pension.

You will assist engineers, learn to assess drainage conditions, and support maintenance strategies while gaining practical experience in CCTV, RAMS, and field operations.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points).
• Strong interest in drainage, utilities, or civil engineering.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with customers about scheduled works and address concerns.
• Assist in identifying drainage issues including blockages, structural defects, infiltration, and root ingress.
• Operate high-pressure water jetting equipment to clean drains, sewers, and pipework.
• Remove waste materials and prevent build-up in wastewater systems.
• Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance for readiness.
• Support CCTV inspections to assess underground pipes and sewers.
• Assist in emergency response, including flooding and urgent drainage issues.
• Learn to complete job sheets, RAMS, and method statements under supervision.
