Job summary

Lanes Group plc is seeking a proactive Drainage Assistant to join our Plymouth Depot team. You will work alongside experienced engineers, surveying drainage systems, learning to assess conditions and support maintenance plans.

The role is permanent and full-time, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. Key duties include assisting with blockages, operating high-pressure jetting, and supporting CCTV inspections.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points).
  • Strong interest in drainage, utilities, or civil engineering.
  • Hands-on approach and willingness to work outdoors in all conditions.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer skills and desire to learn new software.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying drainage issues, including blockages, defects, infiltration and root ingress.
  • Operate high-pressure water jetting equipment to clean drains, sewers, and pipework.
  • Remove waste materials and prevent build-up in wastewater systems.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance to ensure readiness.
  • Support CCTV inspections to assess underground pipes and sewers.
  • Assist in emergency response situations, including flooding and urgent drainage issues.
  • Learn to complete RAMS under supervision by preparing RAMS and job sheets.
  • Hold a Full UK driving licence with limited penalty points as required.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Drainage Assistant to join our team working out of our Plymouth Depot. You'll be working alongside experienced engineers to carry out surveys of drainage systems, learning how to assess conditions, identify defects, and support maintenance and repair strategies. This is a Permanent full time role, Monday to Friday 40 hours per week.

  • Assist in identifying drainage issues, including blockages, structural defects, infiltration, and root ingress.
  • Operate high-pressure water jetting equipment to clean and clear drains, sewers, and pipework.
  • Remove waste materials and prevent build-up in wastewater systems.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance to ensure readiness.
  • Support CCTV inspections to assess the condition of underground pipes and sewers.
  • Assist in emergency response situations, including flooding and urgent drainage issues.
  • Learn to complete job sheets, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS) under supervision.
  • Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points)
  • A strong interest in drainage, utilities, or civil engineering
  • A practical, hands‑on approach and willingness to work outdoors in all conditions
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
