An opportunity for a Drainage Design Engineer to join a leading engineering design consultancy specializing in civil and structural design for Rail and Highways projects. This company handles projects from inception and business case development through to planning, implementation, and handover.

The company is open to hear from Drainage Design Engineers at all levels and salary will be dependent on experience.

The key responsibilities for this Senior Drainage Design Engineer are:

  • Take the lead in designing drainage systems for rail projects, including both surface and subsurface drainage, culverts, and water management solutions.
  • Prepare design specifications, calculations, and drawings for drainage infrastructure.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to determine drainage needs and ensure project specifications are met.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams (structural, track, civil, electrical, etc.) to integrate drainage systems effectively within the broader rail design.
  • Engage with contractors, project managers, and clients to review drainage requirements and ensure that design deliverables are met.
  • Ensure all drainage designs comply with applicable railway drainage standards, safety regulations, and environmental legislation.
  • Manage multiple drainage design projects concurrently, ensuring that timelines, budgets, and quality standards are maintained.
  • Prepare and present technical reports to senior stakeholders.
  • Offer expertise in the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of existing drainage systems, identifying opportunities for improvements.
  • Resolve drainage-related issues, providing sustainable solutions to prevent flooding or water damage.
  • Identify potential risks related to drainage designs and water management, proactively addressing any concerns to mitigate the impact on the project.
  • Implement quality control measures throughout the design and construction process to ensure that drainage systems meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor the implementation of drainage designs, ensuring compliance with plans, standards, and specifications. Perform site inspections to assess drainage conditions and resolve any issues that arise during construction.

Experience/skills required for this Drainage Design Engineer are:

  • Experience as a CRE is highly desirable.
  • A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering, Drainage Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in drainage design, with a focus on rail or infrastructure projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of drainage regulations, standards, and best practices specific to rail infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in design software like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, or other drainage modelling tools.
  • Proficiency in drainage design and water management techniques.
  • Familiarity with railway drainage standards, safety requirements, and regulatory compliance.
