I have an opportunity to join an engineering design consultancy that specialises in civil and structural design works across Rail and Highways. Managing projects through inception to business case, to planning, right through to implementation and handover. Their services stretch across both the public and private sectors, and for large and small organisations.

They are looking for a Senior Design Engineer who has a background in rail design drainage engineering to join their South team, this can be based in their Guilford or London Blackfriars office.

The key responsibilities for this Senior Drainage Design Engineer role are:

• Lead and manage the design of drainage systems for rail projects, including surface and subsurface drainage, culverts, and water management systems.
• Develop design specifications, calculations, and drawings for drainage infrastructure
• Conduct site surveys and assessments to evaluate drainage needs.
• Work closely with other engineering disciplines (structural, track, civil, electrical, etc.) to ensure drainage systems are integrated seamlessly into the overall rail design.
• Liaise with contractors, project managers, and clients to discuss drainage requirements and ensure design deliverables are met.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant railway drainage standards, safety regulations, and environmental legislation.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that design timelines and quality standards are met.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to senior stakeholders.
• Provide expertise in the maintenance and upgrade of existing drainage systems, identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Investigate and resolve drainage-related issues, providing long-term solutions to prevent flooding or water damage.

Experience and qualifications required for this Senior Drainage Design Engineer role are:

• CRE experience.
• Civil Engineering/Drainage Engineering degree or equivalent.
• At least 5-10 years of experience in drainage design, with a strong focus on railway or infrastructure projects.
• In-depth knowledge of drainage regulations, standards, and guidelines in rail infrastructure.
• Proficiency in drainage design and water management techniques.
• Strong knowledge of railway drainage standards and safety requirements.
• Driving licence as the role will require site visits for surveys and assessments.
