Job summary

NHS Property Services is seeking a permanent Cleaning Operative to join the Delivery Frontline team, covering NHS sites across Southend and Essex. The role is mobile, with evening shifts in a company van and requires a full UK driving licence and DBS check.

You will ensure NHS environments meet National Cleaning Standards, perform legionella flushing, handle waste, and operate cleaning equipment. Prior cleaning experience is not essential, but a proactive, safety-minded approach is crucial.

Qualifications

• Full, clean UK driving licence.
• Standard DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Good attention to detail and awareness of health, safety and infection prevention.

Responsibilities

• Ensure healthcare environments meet NHS National Cleaning Standards.
• Keep NHS sites clean and hygienic across locations in Southend and Essex.
• Carry out legionella flushing and record activity accurately.
• Safely handle and dispose of waste according to COSHH.
• Use and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor machines and steam cleaners.
• Report equipment faults through NHSPS systems.
• Replenish cleaning supplies and consumables.
• Support a safe, welcoming environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.

Job description

This permanent role sits in the Delivery Frontline team at NHS Property Services, covering several NHS sites across Southend and Essex. The core of the work is keeping healthcare environments clean to NHS National Cleaning Standards, including legionella flushing, waste handling, and using and maintaining cleaning equipment. It is a mobile post, so the postholder moves between sites in a company van on weekday evening shifts. A full UK driving licence and a standard DBS are needed, and prior cleaning experience is not essential.
