Job summary

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Domestic Assistant to maintain cleanliness across wards, corridors and offices, ensuring patient, visitor and staff safety through high hygiene standards.

Shifts run 07:00–20:00 with morning and afternoon options. You will join a dedicated domestic team and contribute to a clean, safe hospital environment for thousands of people daily.

Qualifications

• Basic Food Hygiene and/or Level 1 Food Safety Certificate, to be achieved within 6 months.
• GCSE Maths and English or equivalent.
• Previous domestic cleaning experience is desirable.
• Customer service training is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Clean floor areas by vacuuming, mopping, buffing and spray cleaning.
• Undertake deep cleans where infection is present.
• Remove rubbish including clinical waste to disposal point.
• Clean sanitary areas, toilets, sinks, showers and staff changing areas.
• Damp dust surfaces, ledges and shelves; clean internal glass.
• Maintain high cleanliness standards across all areas.
• Participate in training on hygiene, fire drills and safety regulations.
• Carry out other duties as required.

Job description

The successful candidate will maintain the standard of cleanliness as specified throughout the designated work area by means of approved cleaning methods.,

• Cleaning of floor areas as scheduled by means of vacuuming, mopping, buffing and spray cleaning.
• Undertake deep cleans in areas where infection is present.
• Removal of rubbish including domestic and clinical waste from designated areas to disposal point.
• Cleaning of sanitary areas, toilet, sinks, shower cubicles and staff changing areas.
• Damp dusting of all surfaces, ledges, shelves, curtain rails.
• Cleaning of internal glass.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all work areas.
• Carry out any urgent spot cleaning and spillage.
• Participate in training programmes relevant to efficiency, fire drills, hygiene, the requirements of the health and safety at Work regulations and other courses as deemed necessary for the efficient working of the department.
• Any other duties as deemed appropriate.
