Job summary

WM Donald is seeking an experienced Divisional Finance Controller to own financial management and reporting across the Division within a leading civil engineering contractor. You will deliver timely management accounts, provide commercial insight and maintain robust financial controls.

Working with the Finance Director, you will lead month-end close, budgets, forecasts and cash flow management while ensuring compliance and continuous improvement of finance processes and systems.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA).
• Strong knowledge of management accounts, statutory accounts, VAT and audit.
• Knowledge of contract accounting, WIP and percentage completion methods.
• Experience with month-end close, audit and regulatory compliance.
• Proven experience in financial control, reporting and cash flow management in a commercial environment.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
• Experience as a Finance Controller or senior finance role.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
• Proficient with Microsoft 365.
• Proficient with ERP/accounting systems.

Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the financial control and reporting of the Division.
• Prepare, review and deliver accurate monthly management accounts and financial reporting within deadlines.
• Provide analysis of divisional financial performance including turnover, gross profit, overheads, operating profit and cash flow.
• Lead the month-end close process with journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
• Review performance against budgets and forecasts, flag variances and support corrective actions.
• Lead the preparation and review of divisional budgets and forecasts.
• Provide financial challenge to operational managers on costs, profitability and performance.
• Monitor project/costing and revenue recognition, including WIP and final outcomes.
• Manage working capital, debtors/creditors and cash collection.
• Ensure robust financial controls and compliance with company policies.
• Support system improvements, including MS BC and other financial systems.
• Provide support for VAT returns and external reporting.
• Identify financial risks and mitigation actions.
