Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Divisional Director is the Accountable Officer for the Surgery Division and is responsible, alongside the Divisional Medical Director and the Divisional Nursing Director, for the direct delivery of all clinical and non clinical patient services managed within the Division. This involves ensuring that high quality services are provided to patients and that all operational and performance targets, including RTT, ED 4 Hours ; Cancer
access and waiting times; financial balance, Productivity , Efficiency and Transformation (PET), and HR KPIs are met. . The role also includes ensuring that services are continually improved and developed in line with best practice standards and the business planning process..

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

  • Diploma in NHS Management or equivalent clinical or professional qualification

Desirable criteria

  • Education to Masters/Fellowship level or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant demonstrable experience of senior operational clinical services management of a group of services or specialties within the NHS.
  • Detailed understanding and experience of the operation of acute hospital services
  • Proven ability to manage change, service activity and development within a large and complex organisation
  • Experience of planning and implementing strategic goals
  • Experience of managing large budgets and workforce.
  • Experience of successful project management
  • Detailed knowledge of Clinical Governance and risk management
  • Comprehensive understanding and application of Department of Health Policy

Disclosure and Barring Service checks

If the role you've applied for requires a Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check we will administer this on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment, or over 3 months. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered. Currently the charges are - Basic DBS check £26.40 Standard DBS check £26.40 and Enhanced DBS check £54.40.
