Job summary

Mimecast is seeking a Director-level leader for MTA Engineering to guide a multi-squad, AI-enabled engineering organization responsible for the email security platform that processes billions of emails daily. You will set strategy, raise engineering standards, and lead leaders to deliver reliable, scalable systems at pace.

You will work with Product, Security, and Operations while shaping a culture of continuous improvement, mentoring senior engineers, and driving responsible AI use across teams

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development with progressive engineering leadership responsibilities.
• 5+ years in engineering management, including experience leading other engineering managers.
• Proven track record of leading multi-team engineering organisations with improvements in execution quality and team health.
• Experience translating business strategy into engineering plans and presenting to VP/C-suite audiences.
• Background in high-availability, mission-critical distributed systems and credible technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own the multi-squad engineering organisation with accountability for delivery outcomes and team health.
• Lead Engineering Managers and senior staff, developing leadership and succession planning.
• Set and maintain high standards across squads for testing, observability, release governance, and secure development practices.
• Translate product and business strategy into multi-quarter engineering plans and present in executive forums.
• Champion AI-augmented development and governance for responsible AI usage across teams.
• Partner with Product, Security, and Operations to align priorities and resolve cross-organisational dependencies.
• Ensure reliability and performance of the MTA platform with robust monitoring and incident learning.
• Drive hiring strategy and budget/headcount for the engineering segment.
