Job summary

Mimecast Limited is seeking a Director of MTA Engineering to lead a multi-squad engineering organization for the Email Security platform. You will drive delivery outcomes, establish high-performance culture, and guide architectural decisions at the executive level.

The role requires strong engineering leadership, experience with distributed systems, and a passion for AI-enhanced development. It offers hybrid work with on-site London presence and a competitive base salary.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development with progressive engineering leadership responsibilities.
• 5+ years in engineering management, including leading other engineering managers.
• Proven track record of leading multi-team engineering organisations with improvements in execution quality, team health, and capability.
• Strong ability to translate business strategy into engineering plans and present credibly to VP/C-suite.
• Background in high-availability, mission-critical distributed systems.
• Experience managing large-scale organisational change.
• Excellent collaboration, coaching, mentoring and communication skills.
• AI fluency: experience with AI-powered development tools or enthusiasm to adopt AI tools across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the Organisation: lead a multi-squad engineering organisation with accountability for delivery outcomes, team health, and culture.
• Lead Leaders: build and develop Engineering Managers and leads; establish succession plans for key roles.
• Drive Engineering Excellence: set high standards for testing, observability, release governance, incident response, and secure development.
• Own Technical Strategy: translate product strategy into multi-quarter plans and advise at executive levels.
• Champion AI-Augmented Development: drive adoption of AI tools and governance for responsible use.
• Stakeholder Management: align with Product, Security, and Operations on roadmap priorities.
• Operational Accountability: ensure reliability and performance of the MTA platform with monitoring and post-incident learning.
• People Leadership: drive hiring, leveling, and headcount planning; manage engagement and performance.
