Anglian Water is seeking a Digital Engineering Manager to lead our Software Engineering Practice across Lincoln, Huntingdon or Peterborough with a hybrid working pattern. The role blends technical credibility, people leadership and strategic influence to shape software delivery.

You will lead a community of engineers, set standards, govern practices and collaborate with Product, Architecture and Cyber teams to deliver secure, scalable digital products.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading software engineering teams in a complex technology environment.
• Strong software engineering background with technical credibility to engage at strategic and detailed levels.
• Experience building high‑performing engineering teams and developing technical talent.
• Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, cloud-native delivery, DevOps, observability, and governance.
• Experience working within agile and product‑centric delivery environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and continuously develop the Software Engineering Practice across Anglian Water.
• Build a strong engineering culture focused on quality, collaboration, continuous improvement and customer value.
• Define and evolve engineering standards, guardrails, patterns and best practices.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Cyber and other Digital, Data and Technology teams to ensure alignment with wider strategic outcomes.
• Provide leadership and line management for senior software engineers and lead software engineers.
• Support workforce planning, capability growth, recruitment and succession planning.
• Champion modern engineering practices including DevOps, automation, observability, secure‑by‑design development and continuous delivery.
• Drive improvements in engineering maturity through meaningful metrics and performance insights.
• Identify opportunities to simplify, automate and improve software delivery effectiveness.
• Act as a senior technical leader influencing investment decisions, technical direction and delivery approaches.
